LONDON — Protesters gathered outside the Japanese Embassy in London on Monday and called for Tokyo to address the demands of former World War II sex slaves.
Campaigners from Amnesty International were joined by Gil Won Ok, 79, from South Korea, who was one of around 200,000 women forced by the Japanese military to provide sex for soldiers during the 1930s and 1940s. The small band of protesters, who held banners declaring "still waiting for justice after 62 years," urged the Japanese parliament to formally apologize for the women's treatment and also demanded Japan compensate the victims.
