実に不思議なのは、クジラ肉に執着しているわけでもないのに、みょうに捕鯨擁護に熱くなれる人々がいるってことですわ。グリーンピースのやりかたはどーかしらんとは思うけど、日本がやってるのはあくまで「調査」だから。食べるのは建前上二の次だから。食べること強調しすぎると、ますます捕鯨ピンチだから。そこんとこ、ヨロシク。

"There's a big difference between coastal whaling towns and the rest of Japan in consumption of whale meat, and so we've been trying to offer whale dishes to as many people as possible," said Geishoku Labo's president, Hiroshi Nakada.

A recent survey by the Nikkei business newspaper said that while most Japanese wanted to eat more whale meat, only one in four liked it, with the figure dwindling to 12 percent among people in their 20s.

捕鯨にかかわる港町とそのほかの地域では、クジラ肉の摂取量に大きな違いがあるので、なるべく多くの人に鯨を食べてもらうよう努力している、と鯨食研のナカダ・ヒロシ氏。最近の日経新聞の調査によれば、もっとクジラ肉を食べたいという人は多かったが、好きだという人は4分の1で、20代では12%に過ぎなかった。

ああ、それなのに商業捕鯨再開をＩＷＣで提案するらしいよ。

Japan has indicated to member countries of the International Whaling Commission that it may resume commercial whaling if the IWC fails to alleviate tensions between the pro- and antiwhaling camps before the end of its general meeting a year from now in Portugal, sources said.

Seeking a breakthrough on the moratorium on commercial whaling since 1986, the government notified IWC member countries, "We will review our relationship with the IWC, and possibly resume whale catches in our own way" if the commission's talks on the resumption of commercial whaling do not make progress before the end of the meeting next June, the sources said Saturday.

日本は、これから1年後のポルトガルでの国際捕鯨委員会開催までの間に反捕鯨国と捕鯨賛成国との間で調整がつかなければ、商業捕鯨を再開するかもしれないと通告した。

民間の水産会社は乗り気でないと報道されてたようだけど、何かメドでもあるんかいな。

なんつうか、捕鯨やるんなら遠くまで行かずに日本の領海内で「調査」してればいいのに。普段は冷静で科学的記事をかいてるひとまで、遠洋捕鯨の技術の伝承が大事とか書いてるのをみると、理屈じゃないんだなあと思ってしまいますね。
