Toyota will halt production of the eight models in the recall for at least a week starting Feb. 1. A prolonged stoppage would deal a blow to the firm's numerous parts suppliers. An executive at one such company reports being busy dealing with the production changes.

The head of the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy and Commerce Committee plans to summon Toyota officials to Washington next month to answer questions about the recall. With Congress looking ahead to a midterm election this fall, Toyota's quality control problems could morph into a political issue.
