Veterans and reservists can be great role models. The values of responsibility, comradeship, hard work and a respect for public service are embodied in our Armed Forces. The “Service ethos” emphasises the importance of character formation and high ethical standards, as well as the development of crucial skills such as team-working. Labour wants to see more opportunities for young people to benefit from these attributes and our Policy Review is looking at innovative ways to achieve this.

退役軍人や予備役兵は偉大なロール・モデルとなれる。責任感、仲間意識、努力、そして公務への敬意は我々の軍にしみこんでいる。この「職務意識」は、人格形成や高度な倫理観、そしてチーム活動などの不可欠なスキルを身に着けることの大切さを強調している。労働党は、多くの若者にこうした属性から得る機会を持ってほしいと考えており、これを達成するための革新的な方法を我々の政策レビューチームは検討している。

とくに、げろげろ〜と思ったのは以下の下り：

A recent report by the think tank ResPublica outlined how offering young people opportunities to learn from the ethos of the Forces could help tackle disadvantage and even promote social mobility, a goal central to Labour’s philosophy. We would expect specialist Service Schools to be particularly popular in communities with the greatest social and economic need, which have never had the same range of educational opportunities as more affluent areas.

我が軍の有する専門的技術を最大限に活用することで、若者が軍人らから受け継ぐべき才能について学ぶ機会が与えられるだけではなく、軍とその価値について学ぶことができる。シンクタンクのResPublicaの報告書によると、軍の職務意識から学ぶ機会が与えられることで、労働党の目標というべき、不利な環境を克服し社会の流動性を高めることが達成できると期待される。こうした専門的な軍学校が、社会的・経済的に困窮していて裕福な地域に比べて教育機会の少ない地域において、一般的となることを期待している。

貧しく教育機会も限られている青少年を積極的に軍に送り込もうという魂胆が見え見えですがな。つうか、そもそもそんな立派な人間が、なんで命のやり取りするような職業についてるんでしょ？そんなに立派なら、もっと他にやれる仕事が選び放題なんでは？職業選択の自由じゃん。軍隊で高い倫理観が身に付くなら、なんで死んだアフガン兵を侮辱してる動画をネットに流したりする輩が絶えないんですかね。
